Last week I headed to Bedgebury Park to meet Sam and Debra for an Equine Portrait session. Since then quite a lot has changed for Debra and she was keen to get a new set of pictures.

They are a lovely duo I have had the pleasure of photographing more than once. Last Summer we did some lovely portrait shots at the family home and included the boys and the dogs. This time it was just Debra and her special man.

Since then quite a lot has changed for Debra and she was keen to get a new set of pictures. Having relocated Sam to Bedgebury Park due to a change in work and lifestyle Debra was keen to take advantage of the lovely settings. Her aim for this year was to crack the jumping, do a combined training and get more confident over jumps. This was her goal for 2017 so she wanted me to go along and document their progress. Another excellent reason to have a portrait session.

Sam, being 24, is classed as a geriatric bless him. Whilst he does a good impression of this in the dressage arena show him a jump and becomes 5 again! He starts reliving his youth and reverts back to the amazing eventer he was. This has proved a little challenging for Debra and she has been working on keeping him steady and focused. This has been done with Sam’s old instructor and they are both doing a grand job.

Bedgebury Park Portrait Session: Meet Sam

Sam is a lovely boy, he has such a kind eye and is a complete softy. Plus, he idolises his mummy, who had to wait a long time to get her hands on him. Anna, her instructor had always said Sam would be ideal for her, a couple of missed chances later and finally he’s hers. Given the smile on Debra’s face throughout the whole session I don’t think he is going anywhere soon. Our next mission is to get some cross country pictures, so that may be a goal for next year. Of course I’ll be there camera in hand.

To Finish

We finished the session with some head shots and relaxed portrait pictures. Then I continued to click capturing some lovely moment post ridden exercise. Finally, we turned Sam out and got some sweet ones of him rolling. I love to fact I can document from start to finish and if you aren’t keen on lots of posed images this is an ideal way to have a shoot done.
